Water analysis lessons

October 27th, 2005 by aluminium in ecosystems · lesson · No Comments

I’m slightly disapointed by the behaviour of some students during today’s lessons. Lack of focus during the morning lesson caused much of the confusion you experienced in the afternoon lesson. I’ll try to make my high expectations clearer in the future, but I wont be lowering them :P

Overall I thought it was a success. We will have a debreifing/conclusion in the next lesson.

I am happy you are enthusiastic about the blog, but it is a place of learning and I expect you to treat it with the same respect that you give other such places. This means not posting comments which are off topic and especially not offensive. Please use your well developed common sense.

If you havn’t yet posted your results please do so ASAP.

Population Abundance

October 27th, 2005 by aluminium in ecosystems · experiment · 7 Comments

Yesterday (26/10) we looked at the abundance and diversity of flora and fuana around Wyong River by counting the number of each organism within a quadrant (1m x 1m).

We need to colate all that information into one overall view of the environment around river.

Each group is to submit their table of information as a comment to this post.

Testing Wyong River

October 27th, 2005 by aluminium in ecosystems · experiment · 4 Comments

On Wednesday (27/10) we collected water from the Wyong River. This morning (28/10) we analysed that water using a stream watch kit, looking at among other things, disovled oxygen (DO), temperature, pH, total disolved salt (TDS), and turbidity.

Each group should have recorded the results of their experiements into the site data sheet during this mornings class. Some sections will still need completing. The Bureau of Meterology may be a useful resource.

We will now collate all that information to get an overall picture of the health of the river. Each group is to submit the information from their site data sheet.

Do this by reproducing your site data sheet in a comment to this post.
